Anne-Mareike Hess, Vera Kox and Eric Schumacher, award-winners of the first "Portfolio Grant" 2021

Kultur | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg, is offering, for the first time, a “Portfolio grant”, set up to raise awareness of an artist’s work within the sector and among the public, and to foster knowledge of different artistic practices. The format chosen by the artist must be suited to the way in which they work and may take the form of a paper publication or digital format

Following a call for applications, two selection committees composed of Christian Mosar (Konschthal Esch), Ruud Priem (MNHA), Marc Scozzai (Rotondes), and Julie Wagener (AAPL) for the visual arts and for the performing arts Anne Legill (Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg), Stéphane Ghislain Roussel (Projeten), Laura Graser (Rotondes), Maxime Bender (Trifolion), Coraline Garnero (TROIS C-L) and Tammy Reichling (Maskénada), unanimously decided to award three grants to the projects of Anne-Mareike Hess, Vera Kox and Eric Schumacher.

Anne-Mareike Hess works as a choreographer and performer. She performed in many countries including Germany, Luxembourg, Austria and Denmark. Winner of the Luxembourg Dance Prize (Lëtzebuerger Danzpräis) in 2015, she is the founder and artistic director of Compagnie utopic productions.

With the publication “Dreamer: sketches of an artistic process”, choreographer Anne-Mareike Hess / utopic productions, invites the reader to go behind the scenes of the creation process of her upcoming solo dance piece “Dreamer”, which will premiere on 17 December 2021 in neimënster, Luxembourg.

Vera Kox, visual artist

Vera Kox works mainly in installation and sculpture. She has exhibited her work in international institutions and galleries in Germany, England, France, Italy and Luxembourg. “…into deliquescence” is the first major publication documenting Vera Kox’s artistic career. It will feature both new and republished contributions that collide across aesthetic disciplines such as contemporary philosophy, experimental poetry and literary fiction. The book will be published by Distanz Verlag and accompanied by a digital version, available at into.verakox.com.

Eric Schumacher, visual artist

Eric Schumacher, a Luxembourg artist living in Edinburgh, produces sculptures and installations that expose an analogy between tradition and consumer society. Eric Schumacher has won several awards in the United Kingdom and has already exhibited in Luxembourg and abroad. Eric Schumacher’s artist monograph will offer a retrospective of his work and an insight into his creative process. The publication will call on external contributions, both for the perspective of the work and for its formatting. The publication will also be supported by Luxembourg’s new contemporary art space, the Konschthal Esch.

Winners will receive financial support for the design and production of their project as well as a promotion support from Kultur | lx.
