Kultur | lx wishes to promote the internationalisation of Luxembourgish artists’ profiles and careers. This grant covers the membership in the IETM network and the expenses arising from the participation in its events over a period of three years.

The IETM International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts is a network representing over 500 organisations and individual professionals, from independent artists to public cultural agencies, theatres and festivals, working in the performing arts industry in all disciplines around the world. The IETM holds two plenary meetings a year in European cities, which include conferences and debates, pitching and networking sessions, and an artistic programme. It also holds smaller meetings around the world on specific themes or geographical areas. Participating in the IETM is an opportunity for performing arts professionals to develop international contacts and deepen their understanding of the challenges facing the industry.

Following a call for applications, the performing arts selection committee made up of Anne Legill (Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg), Stéphane Ghislain Roussel (Projeten), Laura Graser (Rotondes), Maxime Bender (Trifolion), Coraline Garnero (TROIS C-L) and Tammy Reichling (Maskénada), have decided to award three grant to Anne-Mareike Hess, Tania Soubry and Simone Mousset.

“All three choreographers, but with different backgrounds and horizons, the first winners of the Kultur | lx IETM Network Grant have demonstrated their ability to establish themselves internationally. Their plans to join the network show a very good understanding of the challenges of international cooperation and a strong potential for development. Participation in the IETM network for three years will allow each of them to further develop their connections, exchange on their practices, learn from their peers and create new opportunities to work and disseminate their creations, at a pivotal moment in their career”, explain the committee.

Anne-Mareike Hess, choreographer
Anne-Mareike Hess works as a choreographer and performer. She performed in many countries including Germany, Luxembourg, Austria and Denmark. Winner of the Luxembourg Dance Prize (Lëtzebuerger Danzpräis) in 2015, she is the founder and artistic director of Compagnie utopic productions.

“I am very happy about this opportunity. IETM is offering opportunities for visibility of the artistic work as well as for making new contacts and connections to other people engaged in the performing arts worldwide. The regular meetings are always organized around different topics relevant in performing arts and the world today and there is the possibility to engage into discussions, to learn from peers, to get inspiring input and in that way be in contact with what moves the performing arts world. In this way IETM fits very well to my way of understanding art and to my way of connecting with people and the vision of how I want to develop my work internationally in a more sustainable way.
Through the membership and active participation in some of the regular meetings I expect to grow my network and on long term create new working opportunities. Tania Soubry
Tania Soubry is a dancer, performance artist and choreographer, who works in a transdisciplinary way with body, movement, states, atmospheres, text, dialogue, music, voice, words and sound. She is interested in a poetic re-enchantment of the world through sensuality, humour and solidarity. Her practice is part of an aesthetic theatre of consciousness and affect, an encompassing, stretching and relating, according to tensions, curiosities and desires. It uses the fictional imagination to process the present and create futuristic possibilities. She is concerned with regeneration on an individual, social and global level, in an intersectional approach to transformative justice as an embodied practice, considering the links between the economic, political, socio-cultural, ecological, spiritual and psychological.

She is an associate artist at Trois C-L, Luxembourg, an artist-in-residence and advisory board member of the Exit Map collective, and a member of Chisenhale Dance Space, both in London, UK.

In 2020 she founded Vibrant Matter, a non-profit organisation for the arts, with a focus on choreography.

“Being part of this wide ecology of performing arts practitioners and professionals, participating in events, conversations and exchanges, as well as actively being involved in current debates and practices, will be of tremendous value for growth and development, as well as nourishing my work and the direction of Vibrant Matter. On the other hand it will also provide the opportunities for making crucial work connections, for building networks, and for nourish long lasting and sustainable work relationships with institutions and with theatre and/or festival directors” – Tania Soubry

Simone Mousset
Simone Mousset trained in London at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, the Royal Academy of Dance, and the London Contemporary Dance School with the company EDge. Her training was influenced by intensive workshops with folk dance companies in London, Russia and Ukraine, including the Virsky Ukrainian National Folk Dance Ensemble.

I believe being a member of IETM will nourish and challenge my activities in terms of international collaboration and reflective practice, and feed into many of the fundamental but also sometimes very specific questions I am dealing with in my role of artistic director.
