Global Project Grant recipient Francis of Delirium makes NYC headlining debut

Francis of Delirium finishes off an EP trilogy with The Funhouse EP, released on April 27th via Dalliance Recordings (Gia Margaret, HighSchool). Featuring brand new track ‘Mirrors’ – a slowburn moment of shoegaze excellence – and three previously released singles (’The Funhouse’, ‘All Love’ & ‘Come Out & Play’), the EP’s release coincided with Francis of Delirium’s awaited debut North American headline show at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn, NY.

Since first emerging in early-2020 with the anthemic ‘Quit Fucking Around’, 20-year-old Jana Bahrich (Francis of Delirium) has given voice to the angst and despair that plagues a generation who face an uncertain present and future. A fervent lyrical quality along with the way she blends 90s grunge and present-day alt-pop (think Caroline Polachek and Charli XCX) has taken the Luxembourg-based artist’s music far beyond its place of origin with her two previous EPs (All Change and Wading) and has seen her win praise from Stereogum, The FADER, Paste, Pitchfork, The Line of Best Fit, Clash, 6Music, Radio 1, KEXP and NPR, to name but a few.

Speaking about The Funhouse EP, Jana says: “The EP was largely a way for me to process and adapt to the chaos that continued to be more and more present in our everyday life. As I was writing the EP, it felt like every moment got weirder along with my headspace. I was inspired to mimic that mayhem by using heavier guitars and darker tones, leaning into drum sounds that were massive and bombastic, drawing from bands like Slint and The Smashing Pumpkins.”

Just off the back of their extensive North American tour supporting The Districts, Francis of Delirium’s reputation for an incendiary live show has burgeoned as Jana has charmed audiences the length and breadth of the US and Canada. The band returns to Europe after performing a final North American show at Shaky Knees festival in Atlanta, where they’ll be supporting Kings of Leon at Luxembourg’s USINA22 festival, with a UK headline tour scheduled for September.

The Funhouse EP is set to release on the 27th of April. It’s been mixed by Jolyon Thomas (Royal Blood, Slaves) and mastered by Joe Lambert (Sharon Van Etten, Deerhunter).
