Kultur | lx meets the sector: Performing Arts

After being around for 6 months, Kultur | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg invited the professionals of the performing arts sector to a time of exchange and discussion group on 11 January 2022. This sectoral meeting was an opportunity to review the various support offered by Kultur | lx, as well as to present the actions planned for the year 2022, before ending with formal and informal discussions on the sector’s practices.

More than 40 professionals gathered at the Banannefabrik to discover or rediscover the support mechanisms offered by Kultur | lx.

These are firstly aid to encourage mobility (Support for mobility, research and career development; Tour support; Support for Participation in Fairs) and to develop the visibility (Luxembourg focus programme; Promotion support) of Luxembourg creation.

Kultur | lx then offers two grants to performing arts professionals. A Portfolio grant in order to raise awareness of an artist’s work within the sector and among the public, and a grant to join the international network of contemporary performing arts, IETM.

Finally, four residencies programmes are open to Luxembourg artists in partnership with Kultur | lx:

Research and creative residency for architects, architectural researchers, illustrators and authors at Academia Belgica in Roma (call closed)

These financial supports are also reinforced by concrete actions. In the first half of 2022, Kultur | lx will set up operations to strengthen the sector’s skills and its international connections. On the one hand, a practical and individualised training course for Luxembourg professionals entitled How to internationalise your project: Markets and strategies in the performing arts will be held from February 7 to 10. On the other hand, a series of online and face-to-face meetings will open windows onto the sectors of our German neighbours, with a presence at the Theatertage Rheinland-Pfalz, and Belgium, thanks to a programme of visits to the Brussels sector during the Kunstenfestivaldesarts.

In order to put into perspective, all the support mechanisms and actions that will be carried out, the meeting concluded with a reflection on the practices of the sector and the obstacles to the international distribution of Luxembourg shows. The exchanges underlined the adequacy of Kultur | lx’s proposals with the needs of the professionals, but also the importance of collective cooperation of all the actors in order to create a favourable ecosystem to the development of each one.
