Focus Jazz | Speedmeetings and Workshop

Kultur | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg cordially invites you to its Focus Jazz, taking place on May 10 and 11 as part of the Like A Jazz Machine festival at the Centre culturel régional opderschmelz in Dudelange. Over the course of these two days, Kultur | lx will host professionals from the European jazz scene including programmers, agencies, festivals, and venues, to introduce them to the Luxembourg artists performing at the festival. Both formal and informal exchanges will be facilitated to allow for meaningful interactions between the Luxembourg jazz community and the international delegation.

Speedmeetings
On May 11, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Kultur | lx will host a speedmeetings session at the Brasserie Kantin in Dudelange. This session offers you the opportunity to initiate connections with the professionals attending the Focus. Additionally, the speedmeetings are open to Luxembourg jazz programmers seeking to expand their understanding of the local jazz scene and engage in discussions about current and future projects with Luxembourg artists.

Workshop
Before the speedmeetings, Kultur | lx is offering a preparatory workshop facilitated by Lucy Woolley.
Please note: The sessions will be conducted online and in English. This workshop is primarily designed for independent artists and professionals working in the jazz and improvised music industry.

  • A group session is scheduled for April 25, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. This session will cover the following topics:
    • Examples of pitching
    • Presenting your project in one to two minutes
    • Approaching professionals
    • Key concepts: What information do professionals seek?
    • Balancing personal and professional aspects in conversation
    • Understanding your audience: Whom do you wish to connect with?
  • Training sessions will be held in small groups of 2 to 3 individuals with immediate feedback on May 2, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., or on May 8, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. These sessions will focus on:
    • Overcoming personal networking challenges
    • Approaching networking opportunities with confidence

Lucy Woolley, Artistic Director of the Lancaster Jazz Festival, holds positions at Edition Records, and provides coaching services to artists. With over a decade of experience in the jazz industry, she has cultivated a vast network and honed her skills in artist coaching. Lucy also boasts significant experience in the live music scene, having previously worked with Jazz North, the Jazz Promotion Network, and the Manchester Jazz Festival.
