This year’s BERLIN DESIGN WEEK will be held under the INSIGHTS guiding theme and invites participants to reflect and delve deeper. The aim is to understand design as an aesthetic discipline and as a means of exploring and presenting complex contexts. Participants are invited to present designs that offer insights into their creative processes and simultaneously show how these processes address social, technological and ecological issues and offer solutions.

National and international designers, design studios, collectives, brands, companies, research facilities and institutions can apply to participate until February 29, 2024 – whether they are established players, start-ups, or career changers. The application process is aimed at participants who are willing to present experimental and innovative projects that have the potential to enrich the design industry as well as social and ecological discourse.

Submitted project proposals will be evaluated and selected based on the following criteria:

On the initiative of the Fondation Schleich-Lentz, a foundation under the patronage of the Fondation de Luxembourg, the Fonds culturel national is launching a call for applications for a production grant for an artist or group of artists in the field of plastic arts. The main objective is to support the creative process of a ceramic project.

The grant is awarded in accordance with the terms and conditions set out below.

Eligibility criteria
The grant is awarded on the basis of a call for projects to all artists or groups of artists of Luxembourg nationality or resident in Luxembourg, regardless of age, who can demonstrate a professional career of at least five years and who have already had a monographic exhibition in an art institution or gallery. The grant is intended to support the completion of a ceramics project.

Application assessment criteria
The grant is awarded by a jury on the basis of the following criteria :

Applications are pre-selected by a jury made up of members from the Luxembourg cultural sector. Its task is to assess each application on the basis of its eligibility and to propose to the Management Committee of the Fondation Schleich-Lentz the applications selected for the award of the grant on the basis of the assessment criteria.

Candidates selected by the jury may be asked to attend an interview with members of the jury. Invitation to such an interview is at the discretion of the jury, but does not automatically lead to the award of the scholarship. If you are invited to attend, you must be present.

The jury’s decision is final. It may decide not to award a grant if it considers that the applications submitted do not satisfactorily meet the eligibility and/or assessment criteria.

Material and financial conditions
The maximum amount available for this grant is EUR 20,000.

The Socialdesign platform is an initiative by civil society players – designers, architects, cultural leaders and associations – who have come together to form an interdisciplinary network. It identifies, promotes and attempts to decompartmentalise the practices of these designers of social and cultural transformations.

The Socialdesign Platform is launching its fifth call for publications to give visibility and legibility to the projects of designers engaged in the following activities:

Current events and the various structural crises we are experiencing, whether climatic, health-related, geopolitical or social, are leading us to question, in all directions, the links that our creative professions maintain with their environments and our capacity for social, ecological and cultural transformation. The call for publications for 2023/2024 is being launched in the hope of creating an eclectic panorama and continuing to draw up an inventory of inspiring approaches to social design.

This year, our aim is to create an online map of all the projects published since the platform was set up, so that each project can be anchored as closely as possible to its local area and to the organisations that have developed and supported it. In line with this desire to support emerging processes in social design, the Platform is continuing to expand its “under study” space, enabling projects in the making (competitions, calls for projects, end-of-studies projects) to exist and be seen.

Application deadline: 31 December 2023

In order to raise awareness of an artist’s work within the sector and among the public, and to foster knowledge of different artistic practices, Kultur | lx supports the production of an artistic portfolio. The format chosen by the artist must be suited to the way in which they work and may take the form of a paper publication or digital format. Kultur | lx intends to promote the distribution of these publications within the sector and to the public, whether as part of scouting programmes or on the Kultur | lx website. The publications for this grant should not be linked to a planned exhibition or event however must be conceived as an introduction to the artist’s career and artistic approach. They must also include the cooperation of and contributions from other professionals (commissioning of texts, images, videos, etc. documenting the artist). Priority will be given to artists who do not yet have such a tool for presenting their work.
