VISUAL ARTS FOCUS LUXEMBOURG

On the occasion of Esch2022 – European Capital of Culture, Kultur | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg organises a FOCUS on the VISUAL ARTS scene in Luxembourg during three days dedicated to artists’ meetings, exhibition visits and exchanges between professionals.

The program will take place over three days, from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 May 2022.

A common thread: the post-industrial south of Luxembourg

The main thread of the program of visits, located in the industrial and post-industrial south of Luxembourg, a cross-border space with multiple identities and questionings, will revolve around the place of creativity and digital arts in the understanding of a past and in the invention of possible futures of these territories in reconversion.

Networking and discoveries

This focus will allow you to visit some of Esch2022’s flagship exhibitions, industrial sites converted into hubs for creative companies or collaborative spaces for artists and citizens, or leading museums and art centres.

You will be able to visit artists’ studios curated by Margot Delalande (curator, Frac Lorraine) and meet the teams of Esch2022, Mudam Luxembourg – Musée d’Art Moderne Grand- Duc Jean, Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’art contemporain, Konschthal Esch – Espace d’art contemporain.

Finally, you will be able to attend some highlights and enjoy the friendly and informal atmosphere of these Focus Luxembourg.

Friday May 13: Differdange + Luxembourg

1535° – creative hub (Differdange): the 1535° gathers artists, creative companies and workshops on a former industrial site reconverted into a platform of meetings, exchanges and diffusion

– Visit of the exhibition Craft 3.0 : at a time when the question of the perpetuation of crafts and their evolution in the face of the development of new technologies is posed more than ever, De Mains De Maitres Luxembourg invites craftsmen, creators, designers and digital specialists to a manifest exhibition
Meeting with Jean-Marc Dimanche, curator of the exhibition Craft 3.0

– Visit of the Casino Luxembourg – forum d’art contemporain, exhibition The Everted Capital (Katabasis) by Fabien Giraud and Raphaël Siboni

Saturday May 14: Esch-sur-Alzette + Esch-Belval, European Capital of Culture

– Visit of the Konschthal – Contemporary Art Space, exhibition Instant Comedy by Filip Markiewicz
Meeting with Christian Mosar, director

– Visit of the exhibition Hacking identity – dancing diversity curated by ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe within ESCH 2022 – European Capital of Culture. The exhibition, which takes place in the Möllerei, a former ore storage area at the foot of the Belval blast furnaces, aims to make tangible the identity change of the metamorphosis of material industrial culture into a fluid media sphere.
Meeting with Vincent Crapon, head of the visual arts program and Françoise Poos, artistic director ESCH 2022

– Performance by Cécilia Bengolea, Esch-Belval, Socle C (ESCH 2022 commission). Encompassing live dance performance, sculpture and video installation this ambitious and multifaceted project explores the material and historical dimensions of fire and metal and their effect on the body. The project unfolds across Socle C (the concrete platform of the former Blast Furnace C) in Esch-Belval.

– Exhibition Kamelleschmelz by Trixi Weis, Ferro Forum, Esch-Schifflange. The art installation of Trixi Weis is in fact a steel factory in miniature producing candies with a cola taste. When coke becomes cola…
