Created in 1981, Jazz à Vienne is now the first jazz festival in France and the first cultural event in the French region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Every year, the festival brings together more than 220 000 festival-goers in the Roman Theatre and around various free stages. It has gained international recognition in the eyes of the audience and the artists.

What Is JAZZUP ?

JazzUp is an exciting and comprehensive summer training program for young musicians from France and abroad. The partners of JazzUp are Big In Jazz Festival (Martinique, France), Echterlive Festival (Luxembourg), Jazz Festival Esslingen (Allemagne), JazzReach (États-Unis), Taller de Musics (Espagne), Togoville Jazz (Togo) and Udin&Jazz (Italie). Over 10 packed days, it offers full immersion in the Jazz à Vienne festival !

Taking part in JazzUp is a great opportunity for young musicians to work with counter parts from all over the world and to connect with renowned professionals. JazzUp is a chance to strengthen your musical abilities thanks to a robust program culminating in an on-stage performance before an informed audience. It is also a perfect way to explore many aspects of the jazz universe.

JazzUp is designed for experienced young musicians who master improvisation and harmonic skills.

3 musical samples are required: online video (no file downloads) of the musician playing a ballad (ex: Body & Soul), a medium to medium-up tempo tune (ex: Have you met Miss Jones, Days Of Wine And Roses or Stella by Starlight), and an up-tempo tune (ex: I’ll Remember April, Nica’s Dream, Airegin or Moment’s Notice).

The fee covers accommodation, catering (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and supervision of trainees. Transport costs are not included. Participants will be picked up and met at the airport/railway station by festival staff.

In the frame of its missions of promotion and its presence at jazzahead!, Kultur | lx will issue a brochure presenting the Luxembourgish jazz scene. This document aims to give international professionals attending jazzahead! a global view on Luxembourg artists’ current projects, and to give information on the Grand Duchy’s jazz life (venues, festivals, concert series…etc).

From April 11th to 13th, Luxembourg will be present at jazzahead! with a ‘Jazz from Luxembourg’ stand. The stand, set up by Kultur | lx, will enable all Luxembourg jazz professionals and artists to meet the international professionals attending the fair.

In 2023, jazzahead! gathered 3000 participants from 60 different countries. A central platform for the jazz sector, taking place every year in Bremen (Germany), the event gives rise to formal and informal networking, as well as showcases and conferences. In 2023, a delegation of 18 actors from Luxembourg’s jazz scene (artists, bookers and managers, promoters) attended the fair.

Are you an artist or an independent professional working in the field of jazz and improvised music? We would be delighted to count you in the Luxembourgish delegation! With the aim of supporting your career and network development, Kultur | lx will cover the travel of maximum 10 delegates to jazzahead!, for a maximum of 800€, through the Support for prospecting, research, and career development.


You can apply for the Support for prospecting, research, and career development  until Kultur | lx’ next two submission deadlines, on February 15th or March 21st 2024.

Please note: after these deadlines, Kultur | lx will not be able to grant you a career development support for your travel to jazzhead!. The internal and selection committees have a period of three weeks to decide on the application from the deadline for submission (see deadlines above). The submitted project may not start before the end of the deadline for response.

Beneficiaries of Kultur | lx’ ongoing grants (Global Project Grant, Artist Management Programme) are not entitled to this support.

We recommend you to stay two days on site to have time for meetings and exchanges with the professionals attending the fair

Please note that all travel, accommodation bookings and accreditation purchases are to be made by the applicant to the support.

The reimbursement of the support will occur upon the presentation of a report form with the receipts and proofs of payment on our online platform.

The call for applications to play at Iceland Airwaves, which will take place in Reykjavík (Iceland) from November 7 to 9, 2024, is now open.

Situated halfway between North America and Europe, Iceland Airwaves is the world’s most northerly music showcase festival that brings together the country’s brightest emerging musical talent and forward-thinking international acts. Each November for three days and nights, downtown Reykjavík comes alive, filled non-stop with music, with performances hosted everywhere from tiny record stores and art museums, to cool bars and stately churches, to nightclubs and large-scale venues. For two decades, Iceland Airwaves has shone a spotlight on new talent, with early appearances from the likes of Mac DeMarco, James Blake, Sufjan Stevens, Young Fathers, Sigrid, Florence and The Machine, and many more.

The call for applications to play at Waves Vienna, which will take place in Vienna (Austria) from September 5 to 7, 2024, is now open.

Launched in 2011, Waves Vienna added a new leitmotif in 2022 besides the conference focus on East meets West: diversity. Since then, each year a new aspect from the large range of topics is worked on as a common thread for the discourse and festival programme. While the live programme features a wide variety of national and international acts, the conference offers a diverse discourse programme with panels, keynotes, workshops, master classes, and many networking opportunities. Every year, Waves Festival welcomes one country as special guest with a focus on acts from this country in the live programme. This year’s guest country has not yet been announced.

Every year, the Cité internationale des arts launches a residency program intitled 2—12 , open to all artistic disciplines (visual arts, performing arts, music and writing).

Offering the research time required by each artist, this program gives everyone the opportunity to apply upon submission of a project, for residencies lasting between two and twelve months, between September 2024 and August 2025.

Participation in the 2—12 program enables artists to benefit from networking with the community of 325 artists in residence, of all nationalities, disciplines and generations, as well as with external professionals, depending on the project.

The call for applications to play at WOMEX 24, which will take place in Manchester (UK) from October 23 to 27, 2024, is now open.

WOMEX is both a professional conference and trade fair for the world music scene and a five-day showcase festival celebrating diversity and creativity with films, global music acts, opening and award ceremonies. Around 2,500 delegates and 300 artists from over 90 countries are expected to attend. WOMEX has toured Europe since 1994 and will be coming to Manchester this year. Its musical spectrum covers everything from the most traditional of music forms to the latest local underground, embracing folk, roots, jazz and local cultures, alongside urban and electronic sounds from across the globe. While the daytime activities are reserved for music industry delegates, the live night-time music events will be ticketed and open to members of the public as well as delegates.

The call for applications to play at SHIP Showcase Festival & Music Conference, taking place from September 12 to 15, is now open.

At the end of the summer, the second edition of the SHIP Showcase Festival & Music Conference will attract music industry professionals from Europe and elsewhere to the coastal town of Šibenik. The conference part of the festival includes numerous panels on current developments in the music industry and speed meetings with the participation of a large number of domestic and foreign delegates from all spheres of music. At night, the city becomes a stage for numerous genre-neutral performances ranging from classical music to the latest developments in electronic music and everything in between. The inaugural festival in 2023 attracted more than 3,000 people, including more than 300 music professionals.

The call for applications to play at Reeperbahn Festival, which will take place in Hamburg (Germany) from September 18 to 21, 2024, is now open.

Since its debut in 2006, the Reeperbahn Festival has developed into one of the most important gatherings for the music world. For four days every September, the international music community meets in St. Pauli District along the Reeperbahn strip. With more than 360 different concerts from heavy metal and punk to indie, hip-hop, jazz and soul: spectators, delegates and artists alike will have plenty of opportunities to broaden their musical minds beyond genre boundaries. The conference offers industry representatives a program of sessions, networking events, matchmaking events, showcases, meetings and the ANCHOR award show. For artists, the Reeperbahn Festival is a springboard to Germany and a gateway to the wider world.

On the occasion of the celebration of the anniversary of the birth of HRH the Grand Duke, the Ministry of State and the Ministry of Culture are pleased to launch a call for applications for the creation of a musical composition to be performed at the official ceremony on 23 June 2024 at the Philharmonie Luxembourg.

The call is open to all Luxembourg or resident composers who are members of a collective management society.

The festive work must be written for symphony orchestra (strings 14/12/10/8/6; 3 Htb; 3 Fl; 3 Cl; 3 Bas; 4 Cors; 3 Trp; 3 Trb; 1 Tuba; 1 Harp; Timpani; 2 Perc) and will be performed by the Luxembourg Philharmonic to open the ceremony. A mixed choir (SATB) may be added as an option.

Duration of the work: approximately 8 minutes
Prize: EUR 8,500 excluding VAT for the creation
